Nintendo my Dream

Nintendo the company that has given many of you so much console and handheld joy over the years. From the original Game Boy to the Gamecube, from the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) to the Wii and now the Switch.

Those are just some of the consoles. Then there are the games and the infamous iconic video game characters including Mario, Link, Yoshi, Wario and much more.

The problem I have is that I have never owned any of Nintendos home consoles. I have owned the handhelds including the original Game Boy and DSi but never a home console. Mainly it was down to me not being able to afford the Nintendo prices.

I envied my cousin who owned an NES back in the 80s. I couldn’t wait to go round his house just so I could play Mario.

My friend had a Nintendo 64, we would spend hours playing Goldeneye on the weekends but then I would have to go back home.

When I had one of my first jobs in the local shopping centre I would go the Virgin Megastores and play Donkey Kong on the GameCube demo booth in the store.

The Wii came along and I brushed it aside because I had my XBOX 360 and Playstation 3. Then the Wii U came along and I held off buying one because the uptake and support for the console weren’t that great.

Now the Switch is released I’m not ready to make the plunge just because the games just aren’t out on the system yet. Yes Zelda: Breathe of the Wild is a great game and I have had some hands on time with it even if it was for a short period of time.

I just can’t justify the investment yet, maybe I’ll wait another year when the library of great games has increased. At least, for now, there appears to be the third party support and indie support there that was lacking so much from the Wii U.

With so many great games available for the Game Cube, Wii and the Wii U, I am seriously contemplating investing in a Wii U purely for the backwards compatibility to play all those games I have missed.

Even now I can afford the consoles and games, I have held myself back.

Looking on Ebay and other online retail and auction sites, I’ve noticed the cost of a Wii U hasn’t dropped that much just yet. Maybe in a few months when the popularity of the Nintendo Switch rises then the cost of a Wii U will fall.

Fingers crossed my dream of owning a Nintendo console will come true.
